2083.0 Outdoor Leisure Pursuits.
This course is designed to explore the nature and scope of outdoor
recreation opportunities. Practical experience will be provided. Pre-
requisites: KIN 1003; LST 2003, DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO SWIM.
Spring
3013.0 Program Design and Management.
This course covers the principles of planning and implementing general
leisure programs designed for group involvement. Topics include
identification of leisure needs, categories of leisure activities,
programming formats, & integration of people with disabilities into
general leisure programs. Upon completion, students will be able to
develop and implement activities based upon participants' needs, in-
terests, and strengths. Prerequisites: KIN 1003; LST 2083 (exception
made for Fitness Emphasis Majors).
Fall
3033.0 Backcountry Skills and Techniques.
A course designed to provide basic information, knowledge and skills
necessary to plan and survive in the backcountry. The WEA 18-point
curriculum will be followed that will provide the student with the
necessary knowledge for a safe and fun outdoor experience. Pre-
requisites: KIN 1003; LST 2003, 2083.
Spring
4801.0 4801-4893. Special Studies.
A course designed to provide an opportunity to do advanced research or
independent work in an area of special interest.
On Demand
4842.0 Backpacking and Nature Awareness.
A course offering instruction in backpacking trip-planning, packing,
gear care, building, cooking, water purification, and hiking tech-
niques. Bird, reptile and wildflower identification are also
components of the class. Day-hikes will culminate into a weekend ad-
venture to a wilderness area as a final project.
